The MPN Network Podcast: New Edition 'The Culture Tour' Recap
On April 6th 2022, The Culture Tour was held in Jacksonville Florida. The mega band New Edition headlined the show and had special guests Charlie Wilson and the group Jodeci. The VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena was filled with fans that grew up listening to these incredible acts.
Jodeci, all members present, kicked off the show performing their hits “Forever My Lady”, “Feenin”, and more. The energy and their continuous flow of performing their throwbacks back to back was a great tone setter. They ended their set with “Cry For You”...and might I add that the live band that backed them up gave their set the perfect score.
Singer Charlie Wilson warmed up the crowd by giving the fans a history lesson (I was schooled, respectfully). He performed some of the songs he wrote and featured on: Snoop Dogg “Beautiful”, Guy “Let’s Chill”, and Zapp “Computer Love”. After making his legacy known, he changed clothes and went into his personal music. He started off with “There Goes My Lady” and kept the show going with “Charlie, Last Name Wilson”...and listen…his showmanship activated with this. He talked to the men by stating to make noise if their woman is the beautifullest one in the building.
Then he talked to the women and had them on their feet! After another wardrobe change, he performed “Yearning for Your Love”, a ballad from his old group The Gap Band. He also performed Zapp “I Want To Be Your Man”, a song he sung on and covered. Following that, he had church service and praised the Most High for helping him be sober for over 20 years, then he went into the song “Outstanding”. He ended the show by singing his part on the Kanye West song “Bound 2” and dropped the mic. Perfect score.
Before New Edition hit the stage, DJ Kool got the crowd hype with his DJ set. He breezed through hits like Boosie “Wipe Me Down”, JAY-Z “PSA”, and his own hit “Let Me Clear My Throat”. Finally, New Edition grace the stage and wasted no time with performing their hits “Candy Girl”, “Mr. Telephone Man”, “If It Isn’t Love”, and more. During their shows, each respected member got to perform their solo and group tunes. Bel Biv Bevoe rocked “Poison” and “Do Me”, Johnny Gil did “My, My, My” and gave the people a great solo show, Ralph Tresvant performed “Sensitivity”, and Bobby Brown blessed the crowd with “Every Little Step” and “Roni”. It was great to see all six members together and they were enjoying each other during the special moment.
