…this commemoration comes when Jacob Blake was shot by the cops, possibly leaving him paralyzed. This comes when a white boy runs rampantly through a protest and shoots people, because he wants to protect property. This comes in the still-shining light of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery being killed by cops (one being a retiree).
The common part, as it relates to Ax Handle Saturday: cops still don’t give a damn and America keeps ignoring this by sweeping it under the rug. 60 years of commonality.
Ax Handle Saturday has always been intriguing to me. It’s a major part of Jacksonville, Florida’s history…that’s rarely talked about. While doing my ‘history nerd’ moves, I didn’t realize how our own local paper did nothing to cover this. I’m saying this because The Florida Times Union (or Jacksonville.com…I don’t know man) wrote an apology piece. A formal one. Now versus keeping us informed since it’s happenings. Ok.
In the documentary below, it shows how Mayor Haydon Burns, at that time, basically covered the riot up, PR style. I didn’t see anything about any cops being punished for attacking black youths performing a peaceful protest, but they did mention Richard Parker, a white protester, being in jail for 60 days before the charges were dropped. Per the records, Parker was arrested for inciting the riot. Ok.
I could go on. We’re supposed to be celebrating the good that came out of all of this, but yet and still, we’re here. Witnessing how whites don’t care about blacks. Simple as that. Prove me wrong if I shouldn’t feel this way…WHICH…I’ve been feeling this way for a LONG TIME.
Yeah…I could go on…but I digress.
Today, they’ll be having some virtual events commemorating the 60th anniversary of Ax Handle Saturday. The information is below. Please take the time today to view this. Take time after today to educate yourself on this historic event. It’s my duty to inform people on what’s important to and for the culture I serve. I’m not waiting on Duval media to do it and I’m honestly not buying what they’re doing now (in my opinion…it’s click bait…).
Also, please follow Color Jax Blue and get the dope content from them about Ax Handle Saturday, the positives of voting, and all other things related. You’ll enjoy.
Enjoy the day and the information. We rockin’. #TOTHETOP
